Step into Haiti's history with our Joumou Soup, a spicy tribute to the freedom and resilience of the Haitian people
Ingredients:
- 1kg butternut squash, peeled and cut into pieces
- 500g beef, cut into cubes
- 2 carrots, peeled and sliced
- 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 leek, sliced
- 2 celery stalks, sliced
- 1 chopped onion
- 2 minced garlic cloves
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 beef bouillon cubes
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- A pinch of grated nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Water
Instructions:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until golden.
- Add the beef to the pot and brown it on all sides.
- Mix in the butternut squash, carrots, potatoes, leek, and celery. Stir well.
- Pour enough water into the pot to cover all the ingredients. Add the beef bouillon cubes, parsley, thyme, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for about 30 to 40 minutes until the vegetables are tender and the flavors have melded together.
- Serve this hot joumou soup to celebrate moments of togetherness with family or friends, savoring each spicy and comforting bite!
